Installing Custom Brushes in PhotoShop

Thursday, August 14 2008

PhotoShop has the ability to let you use many custom tools - and even develop your own. One of these tools is brushes. PhotoShop allows you to download new brushes from the internet, and even create your own.

Custom PhotoShop brushes can be downloaded from many places on the web, one of which is the Adobe Exchange.

If you're looking for a really good web host, try Server Intellect - we found the setup procedure and control panel, very easy to adapt to and their IT team is awesome!

This tutorial will show you how to install custom brushes into PhotoShop to use in your compositions.

The first thing to do is to download a new brush. These will be in the .abr file format. If the download comes in ZIP or RAR format, first unarchive the file - there will be an ABR file.
Once you have this .abr file, you can copy it to your PhotoShop directory. We will want to copy it to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Presets\Brushes - this may differ slightly, depending upon where you installed PhotoShop, and which version you are running.

Now in PhotoShop, choose the Brush tool and then click on the Brush Preset picker (little black arrow next to the current brush):

Now click on the arrow in the top-right of this new window (), we will then have this menu:

At the bottom of this menu, you will see a list of all the brushes in the Preset folder. If you don't see the brush you just downloaded, you can click on the Load Brushes option. We will then want to navigate to the Presets/Brushes folder, if we're not already there, and choose our recently-acquired brushes. Once we do this, we will be able to simply select them from the list of brushes within PhotoShop.

We used over 10 web hosting companies before we found Server Intellect. Their dedicated servers and add-ons were setup swiftly, in less than 24 hours. We were able to confirm our order over the phone. They respond to our inquiries within an hour. Server Intellect's customer support and assistance are the best we've ever experienced.

Guys, please take a look at Server Intellect for Windows Web Hosting. I'm very pleased. You will be too. Take a look and see for yourself!
