Removing Wrinkles in Photoshop CS5

Monday, September 13 2010

This is a beginning Photoshop tutorial and we will assume you have basic knowledge of Photoshop tools and keyboard shortcuts.

Here is what we will be working on today

Before:

After:

Step 1) Finding the image

First, you will need to find an image that you would like to edit and remove some of the wrinkles in the photo. Once you have found the image bring it into Photoshop.

Step 2) Add a new blank layer

Now we can begin by adding a new blank layer, because we never want to touch the original.

If you're ever in the market for some great Windows web hosting, try Server Intellect. We have been very pleased with their services and most importantly, technical support.

Step 3) Select the Healing Brush

Now grab the healing brush from the tools panel.

Step 4) Change the sample mode

We want to change the sample mode so to do this we will go in the options bar and make sure our source is set to sampled and the dropdown box has all layers highlighted.

Also make sure the aligned option is unchecked.

Step 5) Click on an area of good texture to sample it

Using the healing brush is a two step process. We will first need to sample an area of good skin and we will use that sample to heal the area we are trying to correct.

To do this hold down your ALT key and click on an area you want to sample. Note: It is best advised to not sample the chin when trying to fix the forehead and so on. Keep your samples closely related to the are you are retouching

Step 6) Paint over the wrinkle

Now you can simply paint over the wrinkle to begin healing it. It is often best to make small short strokes at first until you get the hang of how the tool functions. You can also use your [ and ] brackets to make the brush size smaller and larger depending on the area you are working on.

Step 7) Lower the opacity

We will be lower the opacity of the layer so the person does not look completely changed, yet the wrinkles have now been reduced and are not as drastic on person.

Congratulations you have successfully completed this tutorial. As always the source files will be available for download to help you with any step you may get caught up on.
