Creating a Mirror of an Image

Friday, August 15 2008

Reflections are relatively simple to create in PhotoShop, but this tutorial will show you a few effects to make the reflections look extra special.

Yes, it is possible to find a good web host. Sometimes it takes a while. After trying several, we went with Server Intellect and have been very happy. They are the most professional, customer service friendly and technically knowledgeable host we've found so far.

We will start off with the following image:

We will start by duplicating the layer, and then goto Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal, then move it over to the right-hand side, like so:

Let's reduce the opacity of this duplicated layer down to around 35%, then open up the Layer Styles and add a Gradient Overlay. We need a nice reflective Gradient. The following was used in this example:

We also want the angle of the Gradient to be -85° and the scale may need to be adjusted to fit, or repositioned.

We chose Server Intellect for its dedicated servers, for our web hosting. They have managed to handle virtually everything for us, from start to finish. And their customer service is stellar.

Now we want to reduce the opacity of mirrored layer to something like 35%.
